An amazing baker I follow on social media posted a photo of these adorable quick and easy to make pies on her Instagram. She was kind enough to share the recipe with me and a few other followers, so i thought it would be really fun to make with my girls on our lazy Valentines day! Its around 10 degrees in Michigan today so I see no reason to leave the house! Lol. But, We needed things to help make the day go by before our dinner date with Daddy. So before I give you the breakdown, here’s the info to follow Helen the baker @Simply Sweet By Helen
Here’s what you’ll Need for the Pies:
- 1 Tsp Almond Extract
- Pie Crust
- Sugar
- 1 Can Pie Filling (your choice of flavor)
- Cookie or Cake pop sticks
- 2 Heart Shaped cookie cutters, small/medium
- 1 Egg
- 2 Tsp Water
Pre-Heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Here’s What you’ll need for the Glaze:
- 1 tsp Almond Extract
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2 Tbsp Milk
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
Roll out your pie crust and cut 7 smaller sized hearts, and 7 Medium. Line the hearts up on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place the cookie sticks in the center of the hearts and gently press down into the dough. If you use large cookie cutters, the sticks will not be able to hold them up, and it will result in the pies breaking.
For your filling, combine the pie filling with the tsp of Almond extract. Then spoon onto the hearts. Don’t overdo the filling, as it will lead to your pies overflowing.
Next, you’ll need to beat your egg with the 2 Tsp of water to create an “egg wash”
Brush the egg wash along the edges of your filled hearts. This will work as a glue for the top half.
After the egg wash, grab your 7 bigger hearts and place them on top of the smaller hearts. There should be enough room for the cherries to be covered without too much spilling out. Use a fork to crimp your edges and keep it all together!
Once everything is attached, coat the tops with more egg wash and sprinkle the sugar on. I didn’t measure the sugar as it is truly your preference. However, I always say more is better than less!
Now let them bake for about 20 minutes in a 350-degree oven! Your home is going to smell amazing!
While that’s baking, combine all of the ingredients for the glaze. All you have to do is mix them together, no photos needed. It should be a somewhat thick consistency and taste like heaven.
Once the Pie pops are complete, let them cool for a few minutes and then drizzle the glaze on top. We added the sprinkle hearts for fun! Enjoy!
Now it’s time to ask Helen, How did I do?!
